Australia VS. New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand have three main commonalities: 1. Both societies were created by the British in the last 3 centuries. 2. About 20% of both populations are migrants. 3. Both countries are in the same part of the world. Outside of these 3 commonalities, Australia and New Zealand are rather different from one another. Environmentally, New Zealand rivals Australia's deserts and droughts with its nutrient rich soils and high rainfall. Culturally, the Maori people- who arrived here first from Polynesia sometime before 1300- reign supreme in New Zealand, speaking the Maori language while most Australians speak in an English similar to Steve Irwin, considering your location. Economically, Australia's GDP is above that of New Zealand, who desire a more tourism based economy (like Fiji) than one based on trade. The differences between the two countries is shown in the way they joke about the other. Australians and New Zealanders like to insult each other with jokes, boasting themselves over the other and demonstrating that they are two very separate countries despite what many believe.
